Hope Valley College PE teacher Angie Astbury has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European Triathlon Union, European Triathlon Championships in Alanya in Turkey in June.
Astbury was selected to represent GB Sport in her age bracket after completing a qualifying event in Grendon earlier this year, which involved a 750m open water swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.
She said: “It is a real honour to be selected to represent your country in a sporting event and I am delighted that I managed to qualify. The challenge now is to ensure that I am as prepared as I possibly can be by training hard so that I can give myself every chance of producing a good performance in the championships.”
Miss Astbury first took up the triathlon in 2011 taking part in the Hathersage Hilly Triathlon and has become addicted to the sport ever since.
Hope Valley College Principal Bernie Hunter added: “I’d like to congratulate Angie on her fantastic accomplishment and I am sure the whole college will be willing her on come June.”
