Page hat-trick boosts Madrid

Top of division one met second from top as Hasland Devonshire visited Killamarsh Juniors and it was the leaders who strengthened their title aspirations by recording a comfortable 5-0 win.

Equally comfortable was Mill Madrid’s win over Creswell Seniors, Billy Page hitting the heights with a well-taken treble in a 6-0 victory.

Grassmoor Sports visited White Swan and goals from S Dickinson and O Carline secured Sports the three points and moved them above Swan in the table.

In the second division Inky FC had won one and lost 12 of their 13 league outings before Dronfield Town arrived but they produced a first-class display to brush aside Town’s challenge winning by eight goals to three.

The game had everything: goals, three penalties one saved by either keeper and scoring opportunities by the bag full of which G Moore converted three and J Woods two for Inky.

On a more sedate note a goal from Sorseby gave Eckington Boys a 1-0 win at Laburnum while a Mason penalty earned Elton three points at the expense of Hady Bridge.

Nash scored twice as Lokomotiv Athletic beat Clowne Wanderers 4-2, New Whitt’s Mitchell also scoring a brace this time in a 5-0 win over Bolsover Old Boys.

Youngster Ryan Illingworth has been a regular on the score sheet for Wingerworth Barley Mow this term and he hit three more against Ark Tavern only to see his efforts cancelled out by Ark Tavern who picked up an excellent point.

Second-placed Talbot failed to close the gap on WBM as they too were held to a draw by Brickmakers.

Oxcroft MW and Killamarsh Juniors Athletic were the third pair of teams in three to draw, their encounter ending all square at two goals each, Winnard and Proctor for Ark, Broadhead and Edge for Athletic.

Creswell Rose and Crown and Grouse Old Boys met in a relegation battle and it was the former who won 3-2, Searson scoring twice.

If there were some close games in this division this was not the case at AFC Brampton who thumped Apollo by nine goals to nil Anthony Lyne scoring four in the rout, Wayne Bexton two.

Three Horse Shoes gained two points on runaway division four leaders Rowthorne Lane by beating Royal Oak Brampton 5-2, Aiden Ordidge and Ryan Whittaker with two goals each as Rowthorne were held to a 2-2 draw by West Killamarsh Reserves.

Pilsley MW racked up a 7-0 win at Clowne Wanderers Reserves, North Star beat Chesterfield Town 2-1 and Crown Inn Killamarsh drew 4-4 with Hasland Wanderers.

The top two in five both won, leaders Highfield beating Scarlets 3-0, Whitehead, Keenan and Wilkes for Highfield, second-placed Charlies Bar’s victory coming against Hunloke Arms. The victory was an emphatic one with M White scoring four of Charlies goals.

Simon Barlow saved two of three penalties conceded by Riverside Utd against North Wingfield, still ending up on the losing side in a 5-3 score line. In the section’s other game Chesterfield Arms drew 2-2 with Barrow Hill WMC.

Division six table toppers New Inn Newton met third-placed Butchers Arms in a promotion battle, the second successive one for both clubs. Geno DeFazio gave Arms an early lead which Newell doubled before New Inn’s Arden was the quickest to react to spot kick re-bound to make it 2-1 at the break. New Inn then drew level through A White before Steve Rendell restored Butchers lead.

New Inn pressed for a leveller before DeFazio turned provider, finding Mason Hamlin after making a surging run, Hamlin making no mistake to put the game beyond doubt.

Dronfield Woodhouse took full advantage of the leaders slip, Anthony Crossland and Paul Hollis securing three points against Barlow which closes the gap at the top to four points.

Dronfield Town Reserves were left on shaky ground after D Rock scored five against them in his Cock and Magpie side’s 6-3 win.

Renishaw MW were level 1-1 at the break in their division seven game against White Hart Spartans but upped the ante in the second period to secure a 5-2 victory and three more points in their quest to claim the title. Starring in the win was A Pleweki, scorer of four Renishaw goals.

Bottom club Miners and Diners have cause to celebrate as they claimed their first point of the season at the 14th attempt in a 2-2 draw at Newbold Wheatsheaf.

Similarly second from bottom Ace of Clubs CP Skips will be in good spirits following a 3-0 win at Brampton Rovers Reserves. Also winners in seven were Britannia, 3-1 at Spread Eagle and Holmebrook Tavern who beat Angel 3-1.

It remains nip and tuck in a fascinating title race in eight as leaders Hopflower United beat Grassmoor Sports Reserves 4-1 to stay above Woodthorpe Inn on goal difference,
