Derbyshire’s most talented and dedicated sporting stars will once again be celebrated at the 2014 Derbyshire Sports Awards - and nominations are now being welcomed.

Derbyshire residents are invited to nominate committed sports volunteers, dedicated coaches and talented athletes from across Derbyshire who they feel are worthy of recognition.

Awards will be presented in 12 categories, including Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsman and Junior Sportswoman, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Disabled Sportsperson, Community Coach of the Year, Performance Coach of the Year, Young Sports Leader/Young Coach of the Year and Club of the Year, as well as the Service to Sport Award.

Local authorities in Derbyshire will reward winners in their district later this year and winners will then go forward to be considered for the Derbyshire Sports Awards, sponsored by the University of Derby. County winners will be announced in November.

A new category, for the Professional Sportsperson of the Year, has also been introduced and, along with the Active Workplace Award – to recognise workplaces that demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of their staff - will be presented at county level at the Derbyshire Sports Awards.

Chair of Derbyshire Sport, councillor Paul Smith, said: “The Derbyshire Sports Awards are an important way of recognising and showcasing some of Derbyshire’s most talented sport people, dedicated volunteers and thriving sports clubs.”
