The 31-year-old Small, a captain with the Royal Engineers, will be racing in the British Military Inter-Services Championship, which spans five rounds at circuits such as Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Mallory Park, Rockingham and Donington Park.

The action starts next week, over the weekend of March 4 and 5, and Small says she can’t wait to get started on her new bike, a Knight Road Ducati 1198, owned and maintained by Akan Knight, after finishing 11th overall in the championship last year. She has been testing out the machine as part of winter training at Cartagena in Spain.

“I’ve had to sell my Via Moto Honda CB500s because I’ve started a new job in Bristol and downsized to a flat, with no garage!” explained Small, who works as a manufacturing engineering manager for Rolls-Royce.

The Army team comprises ten regular and ten reservist soldiers. Small has been racing since March 2015, and achieved second place in the British Women’s Motorcycle Racers Championship of that year. Key sponsors include her 350 Field Squadron, FUCHS Silkolene (oils and lubricants) and Knox, motorcyle clothing and protection
