Rolls-Royce 13, Ripley Rhinos RUFC 7

Rhinos just lost out 13-7 at Rolls Royce in their first pre-season friendly.

Ripley shaded the first half and went ahead from a try from winger Ryan Morris on his debut.

Royce’s came back into the match as the half wore on and Rhinos would come to regret not scoring more when they had the dominance.

The second half saw Royce’s work themselves into the ascendency and apart from centre Anton Brown being held up over the line, Ripley didn’t pose too much of an attacking threat.

They defended stoutly but as they tired Royce took advantage with two unconverted tries and a penalty to ease out as victors.

Rhinos looked good in patches and at the set-piece but they are a lot of areas the coaching staff still need to work on with the squad.

Scrum half Matt Upton stood head and shoulders above the rest of the players in what he did and deservedly took the Man of the Match award from his team mates.
