Chesterfield and Sheffield Collegiate reached the final of the annual Eckington U11 cricket tournament
Batting first Chesterfield lost an early wicket as Collegiate drew first blood but a swift recovery was soon in place as boundaries flowed although the middle overs saw a further wicket and fightback as spin was introduced at both ends.
Momentum was injected at the end by Chesterfield’s final pair with another flurry of boundaries meaning a very testing target set.
Collegiate lost a wicket to the very first ball of their innings which became a recurring theme as they endeavoured to keep up with the required run-rate.
The constant fall of wickets meant the total was always beyond Collegiate’s reach.
Chesterfield CC only lost four wickets throughout the tournament while taking an average of seven wickets per match against all opposition.
Player of the tournament was Chesterfield CC’s captain, Luke Baddeley, who was the leading run-scorer as well as one of the leading wicket-takers.
