Loughlin is star with bat and ball

Phil Loughlin was a man in top form as Apperknowle defeated MGT by eight runs to lift the Chesterfield and District Midweek League Mini Cup.

The final was staged at Coal Aston’s Stonelow Road ground and Apperknowle batted first.

Loughlin hit 26 runs , the same number as Nigel Hibbert while Andrew Scott added 15 in Apperknowle’s total of 131.

For MGT, Jim Carley took 2-8 while Andy Crossley returned 1-6 and Keith Barratt and Steve Nalty both took 1-8.

There were valiant knocks of 28 from Rob Andrews and 28 from Andy Keithley, plus a 20 from from Pick but MGT finished on 123-7, eight short.

Loughlin helped tie MGT down with 1-8 while other good returns came from Russell Parker, 2-13 and Liam Hibbert, 1-10.

The trophy was presented to Apperknowle by Goff Kerry, the Chesterfield Midweek League secretary.
