Matlock Cycling Club’s Sam Gould continued his domination of the u9s category as he recorded his fifth win in a row at the sixth round of this season’s Notts and Derby Cyclo Cross League on Saturday.

Gould’s trademark fast start left others trailing in his wake and by the finish line he had opened up a 41-second gap.

Team-mate Louis Swindell took second spot to make it another one-two for the Matlock duo.

Matlock’s Harriet Limb was once again the winner in the Girls u9s race.

Ellie Smith finished second to Nottingham Clarion’s Poppy Wildman in the girls category and third overall in the u12s race.

Matlock had more success in the youth race, as Will Gascoyne (pictured) won the u16s event from Nottingham Clarion’s Ollie Peckover.

Gascoyne led from lap one but Peckover was in hot pursuit and never let Gascoyne out of his sight. But not even a broken spoke on the final lap was going to stop Gascoyne from crossing the line first.

John Webster came in third in the u14s race, which was won by Nottingham Clarion’s Calum Fernie.

Lee Shunburne remarkably finished fourth on his return to the seniors’ race, which saw 165 riders take part, after recovering from a broken arm that had kept him out of the first five races.

Matlock’s Marianne Heffron came third in the women’s category behind winner Diane Lee and runner-up Tracy Fletcher.

After six rounds, Matlock Cycling Club is comfortably leading the team competition, with it being the dominant force within the children’s age groups.

Matlock’s Kevin White finished ninth (7:49) and Patrick Smart came home in 15th (8:07) in the Rutland CC Mam Nick hill climb on Saturday. Smart’s time was the best of all the juniors.
