Tapton Park wins top golf honour
The multi-award winning set up at Chesterfield's Tapton Park Golf Course has picked up another prestigious sporting prize.
Volunteers, junior organisers, schoolteachers and PGA professionals at Tapton Park Golf Club who have made great strides in helping youngsters to develop as golfers were celebrated at The Golf Foundation Annual Awards Ceremony.
Club representatives were presented with The Laddie Lucas Award for the best local initiative, which has actively engaged with 23 local schools and offers free coaching to all new junior members.
The award was presented by the Golf Foundation president Ken Schofield CBE in front of a packed crowd of VIP guests at Wentworth Club.
Tapton Park Golf Course, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), is home to Tapton Park Golf Club.
The club has won a collection of awards and accolades including the NE Derbyshire Club of the Year Award 2006, Junior Golfmark Award status in 2006, Golfmark with High Achiever Status in 2008 and was named Golfmark Club of the Year in the same year.
Tapton Club juniors Danielle Kay and Robyn Furze both won Volunteer of the Year for their respective age groups at the 2009 England Golf Partnership Volunteer Awards.
Andy Carnall, SIV's golf manager, said: "This latest award caps off what has been an incredibly successful few years for Tapton and demonstrates how our commitment and investment in junior golf development is having a hugely positive impact on the local community.
"The award is great recognition for all the inspirational figures at Tapton who have worked really hard to make the game more accessible for youngsters from all backgrounds and abilities."
