BUXTON Amateur Boxing Club’s Josh Taylor shrugged off illness to take to the ring in Stoke.

Facing a strong opponent who came out fighting, he made the Buxton fighter work from the start. But Taylor was in no doubt of his intent to continue and gave it his all.

Taylor’s grit and determination was exceptional and he put in a terrific performance and looked to land the cleaner and more decisive shots.

In a surprise decision Taylor lost this bout by a majority decision, with both boxers congratulated on a hard-fought contest.

Liam Sircar boxed against a taller opponent, who’s reach advantage made the Buxton junior work hard to get off good clean shots on the inside, working hard to edge the first round. Sircar’s home-town opponent came out pushing harder and forcing Sircar onto the back foot with his long reach.

Sircar knew he required a big round three and really took it to his opponent, working relentlessly and showing great determination to win. Again both boxers were congratulated by the referee for an excellent contest.

Boxing in Hull for his first contest of the season, Giann Magno was against top-class home opposition. Magno went about his business and immediately looked impressive and sharp, his movement causing issue for his opponent.

The Hull boxer seemed to have his best session in the first round, but when Magno went back to the stool both coach and boxer were happy with proceedings, encouraging more of the same.

Magno duly obliged and landed some excellent shots during rounds two and three, defending well and returning with his own attacks.

Buxton were surprised to hear the MC announce the bout as a majority decision in favour of the Hull fighter, robbing the Buxton boxer of a deserved victory.
