No fireworks on November 5

There were no fireworks for New Mills Women’s squash team in their November 5 home match against Astra Zeneca.

Missing number two player Di Howe through injury, New Mills Women’s squash team could only field four players and so were under pressure with three points down from the start.

Linda Done was the fire cracker of the night being the only one to win taking a hard fought 3:1 victory. Denise Wales battled well and came so close to winning but went down to a 1:3 loss.

Jean Boston and Alison Martin failed to gain more than one game between them so the team went down to a disappointing points loss of 18:5.

Spirits rose in their following match with the team back up to full strength in an away match against a strong Marple squad. In a lacklustre game Di Howe suffered a poor 1:3 defeat.

Denise Wales put up a spirited fight but also went down by the narrowest of margins 2:3. Alison Martin gained a perfect 3:0 win and Linda Done evened the match with a solid 3:1 win.

Jean Boston went on court with the match in the balance and kept the teams on the edge of their seats as she spun the match out to a nail biting five games. With her win the team returned home victorious with a narrow 12:9 win.

This success leaves the team second in the Division but they have to face league leaders Bollington in their next match.
