New base for Nicky's Reds

ALFRETON Town took the first preparation steps towards the 2009/10 Blue Square North season when they returned to pre-season training on Tuesday evening.

And, after years of struggling to find a suitable base to operate from, it promises to be a year of major benefit as the Reds have finally managed to secure the use of top notch training facilities, just up the road at Sutton Lawn.

The first training session of the summer saw the squad train on a brand new, state-of-the- art, third-generation astroturf all-weather surface which is FA approved, and the same sort of surface which England played an international game on in Russia recently.

Manager Nicky Law said: "We are delighted to be able to use these facilities.

''They will be a massive boost to us, especially during the winter months where we have really struggled over the past few years to find somewhere decent when the weather turns bad."

With holidays for both Law and assistant Russ O'Neill now firmly in the memory, their early work in securing their targets looks to have paid off as what looks to be a very strong and competitive squad were put through their paces.

Law insists that his squad is not yet complete and aside from being on the verge of landing a second goalkeeper, also training on Tuesday were a handful of proven quality players who are hoping to get themselves fixed up with the Reds for the new campaign.

Meanwhile, the deadline for discounted season tickets has now passed and prices from July 1 to August 7 have risen to 161 for adults, 80 for concessions and 331 for a family ticket.

There is also a new ten-match ticket which is priced at 90 for adults and 50 for concessions.

Tickets can be ordered by contacting Lisa Towerzey on (01159) 392090 extension 107.

The Blue Square North league fixtures for the 2009/10 season are set to be released tomorrow morning.
