PROFESSIONAL mixed martial arts fighter Sam Boult produced the performance of his career to extend his unbeaten record.

The 28-year-old from Ashcroft upset the odds to beat Alan Johnston in an unanimous decision after three rounds to win his fifth successive fight.

It was a change of pace for Boult who is accustomed to finishing his opponents off much earlier.

And the self-employed builder, who turned pro earlier this year, said: “It was the toughest fight I have had by a long shot.

“I comfortably won the first two rounds but he stayed in there and came back really strong in the third.

“There were a few more nerves than the other fights but the more I keep having the more I get used to them.

“I knew I had to stay calm and managed to do that throughout. I didn’t want to mess it up.”

Boult then made it a magical sixth straight win in pro fighting when he defeated Paul Edmonds over the weekend.

This time, however, he won the fight with a choke hold in the first round after just one minute 16 seconds.

“I won it with a Jui-Jitsu move. I want to be known as an exciting fighter,” he said.

Boult is proud of his amateur record having won 13 of his 14 fights before turning professional.

He travels to either Sheffield, Nottingham or Kirkby-in-Ashfield to train.

And the win over Edmonds preserved Boult’s 100 per cent record on the professional stage.

The fighter said he is looking forward to seeing the latest rankings when they’re published next month.

He said: “I said to myself I’d give it a year professionally and see where I’m at at the end of that.“So far it’s gone really well, I’m so pleased with it. The plan was to get eight fights in the year and then see where I am.”
