Doncaster Hockey Club captain Tim Shelley is confident his side can pick up where they left off in November when the Conference North season resumes this weekend.

After losing their first five league games, Doncaster picked up eight points from the next five matches to lift themselves off the bottom of the league ahead of the winter break.

They face second-placed Bowdon on Saturday, but Shelley firmly is sure his side can get something from the game: “We believe we can get points off any team on our day,” he says.

“November was very good for us in terms of results, but our performances early on in the season weren’t that bad, even when we were losing.”

“Some of the games were incredibly close and we were unlucky with refereeing decisions and last minute goals.”

“We lost games we should have drawn and drew games we should have won!”

Doncaster play Premier League side Cannock in the EH cup quarter-final on Sunday.

But with the club sitting just two points above the relegation zone, Shelley says the league must remain a priority.

“We’re aware of the position we’re in, but I’m confident we will stay in this league.

“We’ve got David Dykes coming back from a shoulder injury and Rob Peregrine has been out as well.”

“We’ve got a good balance of talented young players and older characters in the squad and believe we can pick up more points, starting with Bowdon at home.”

Doncaster lost the corresponding fixture against the title favourites in October, succumbing to a 4-1 defeat.
