Darren takes amateur title

Chesterfield Golf Club green keeper Darren Coop enjoyed playing on fairways as well as looking after them, as he won the title of best amateur at the Derbyshire Open at Cavendish.

Winners in the club’s midweek medal were: Division 1 Robbie James with a Nett 68, runner up Darren Coup 70 (Darren plays off +1).

Division 2 Ben Brown with a Nett 67, runner up Will Sharpe with a nett 70. Division3 Richard Walker with a Nett 63, runner up John Middleton with a nett 71

The men’s Saturday medal results were: Division 1 Daniel Elliott with a nett 68, runner up Lyn Thomas with a Nett 68 after a count back¸3rd Steve Gunn with a Nett 69. Division 2 Brendan Lovelock with a Nett 66, runner up Patrick Dunne with a Nett 60 , 3rd John Witham with a Nett 70.

Division 3 Terry Tustain with a Nett 71, runner up Paul Redford with a nett 71, (on a count back) 3rd Dave Spanswick with a nett 73

The Ladies Medal 11 and Breakthrough (a competition which we raise money for breast cancer)

Silver Division ­ Jaci Elliott with a nett 74, runner up Sheila Gretton with a nett 75

Bronze Division Jane Holmes with a nett 72, runner up Anne Sturgeon with a nett 75

Men’s invitation day was held on Sunday and we saw a very big field starting at 7.30am and going through till 3.30pm at intervals of ten minutes, there were 8 prizes on offer but the winners received a complete golf outfit comprising of trousers, shirt and jumper, the winner of this was Glynn Wright and Mr Bolor (from Tapton) with 44 pts, runner up was Lucas Davis and Mr Davis (from Matlock) with 43 pts.
