Boxer Jamie aims for Olympic selection

Jamie Robinson has given himself a fighting chance of boxing at the London Olympics Games in 2012.

For Jamie (17), from Bolsover, has struck gold in the 48kg category representing England in the Great Britain Tri-National Championships held in Liverpool.

Jamie, a member of the Brimington-based St Michael's Amateur Boxing Club, defeated Robert Curry, also representing England in the final.

Jamie, who is coached by Pat Bogle and Lee Jenkins, has crowned a great season for the St Michael's Club.

Coach Lee praised Jamie and said he deserved to progress to the full England choices for the Olympics.

Other St Michaels boxers who have done well include Scott Jenkins who has won his third National title this season, Rod Smith successfully progressing into the senior ranks and the hard-punching Adam Etches.

All are now ready to move into the senior ABA rankings.
