Lewis will beat Jez in the battle of Sheffield

Rod Smith took time off preparing for his own title-seeking mission tonight to predict a winner in a forthcoming Sheffield-derby show.

The Dronfield middleweight, who takes on Tom Doran in Liverpool in a British title eliminator tonight, believes Lewis Taylor will pip Jez Wilson at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, on November 21. Taylor is defending his English version of the belt.

“Taylor v Wilson, its a cracker. Jez is as tough as they come” said Smith.

“My money will be on Lewis to be honest. He is faster. I think he will do a good job on Jez.”

The aggressive-punching Smith believes there are similarities between that fight in terms of style.

“Jez is going to come forward and take it to Lewis. Lewis is going to out-box and out-think him.”

He said the fight was about boxing pedigree and the fact that Taylor has progressed in the last 12 months.

“Just look at his record, he is stepping up opponents each time and keeps getting win after win. I think he needed to and he has. He is strong, I have sparred with him, he is fit and fast with his hands and it is going to get him pretty far in his game.”
