Alfreton Town returned to training this week and manager Nicky Law was delighted at being able to use the new facilities at Somerlea Park Community Centre.

The Reds had full sessions on Monday and Tuesday and Law was pleased with what he saw.

“Training has gone well, the lads have come back and shown a good attitude. They have worked really, really hard.

“They are all in buoyant mood even though the training has been tough” he said.

Law was particularly pleased with the set-up the players now have at the training base in Somercotes.

“It is a big improvement, it is good for us and everyone there has been really helpful and positive to it. We are hoping the partnership will benefit both parties.”

The Reds have increased training this season and this week will see sessions held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Next year it is hoped to increase another session.

Around a dozen trialists have been involved in training so far and Law is hoping one or two will show enough to be taken on. “Hopefully if we can get something it will be a bonus” added Law.

Meanwhile, Nicky Law has made his first signing of summer with former Forest central midfield player Daniel Meadows joining the Reds on a two-year contract.

Meadows, 19, was on loan from Forest at the Impact Arena at the end of last season, playing four times and scoring once in a spell in which he showed plenty of promise and potential.

And Law thinks Forest have perhaps got it wrong this time.

He said: “I just think that every now and again, clubs get it wrong. He is a young lad with a lot of ability and a great attitude and outlook on life.

“If things go to plan, we can see some mileage in him. Primarily, he will be a very good player for us but Dan will also have a chance of moving on from us if he does the business.”
