Julie and Annette win open

Stanedge Golf Club’s Ladies Open was blessed with glorious sunshine over the moorland course with the home pair of Julie Griffiths and Annette Yeomans making good use of their local knowledge to outscore the field.

The duo scored 40 stableford points, two more than the second placed pairing of Stanedge’s Jane Hardy and Bakewell’s Beryl Turner.

Beverley Taylor, of the host club, and Shirland’s Ann Turner were placed third with 37 points.

Nearest pin on the fourth - Annette Yeomans (3ft 6.5in); nearest pin in the tenth - Mary Smith (Bakewell 9ft 4in); longest drive at third - Ann Turner (Shirland); Longest drive at 18th - Mary Dronfield.

Meanwhile, both the gents President’s Cup and the ladies President’s Trophy were up for grabs at president’s day.

Keith Middleton with the highest score of the day of 42 points won the gents award while the ever-improving Ruth Rastrick added to her awards trophy in the ladies.

First division: 1- Sam Griffiths 40 points; 2 - Derek Cooper 39; 3 - Carl Hayes.

Second division: 1- Keith Middleton 42; Doug Durrant 39; 3 - Malc Vaughan 37.

Third division: 1 - Phil Rastrick 39; 2 - Dave Lancashire; 3 - Ken Fergusson 37.

Ladies President’s Trophy: 1- Ruth Rastrick 29; 2 - Christine Norcliffe 37; 3 - Anette Yeomans 29; 4 - Val Corker 28; 5 - Julie Griffiths.

Ladies Kate housley Plate: 1 - Joan Green 69 net; 2 - Chris Norcliffe; 3 - Jane Hardy 81.

Meanwhile, brothers Nick and Tim Russell gained first place in an International Pairs competition at Matlock Golf Club with a score of 45 points.

Trevor Taylor and Graham Dicken scored 44 to gain second place. Both pairs have qualified to go forward to the regional finals.

The mixed pairs Jubilee Cup was won by Andy Brown and Shelagh Lancaster with a net 71.5.

Wednesday’s medal No 6 winners were Div 1 Phil Evans 69 (4) 65, Div 2 Craig Longmore 78(10) 68, Div 3 Master Edward Lee 84 (18) 66, Div 4 Keith Gavin 88 (20) 68, Seniors 70+ Dennis Macey 39 pts.
