James wins top boy honour

James Toft was in superb form at the Derbyshire Swimming Championships.

A member of Eckington Swimming Club, he gained the honour of being the top boy in his age group at the event after gaining three gold medals, a silver, two bronzes and a fourth place finish.

James was first in the 50m and 200m breast stroke and 200m individual medley and was placed second in the 200m freestyle.

He came third in the 50m freestyle and butterfly and was fourth in the 50m backstroke.

Other first places for Eckington swimmers in the county showdown were achieved by Emily Newbold (200m back), Caomi Green (200m butterfly), Kent DiNitto (200m butterfly and 400m individual medley), Alana Simpson (1500m freestyle) and Alex Walker (100m freestyle).

Excellent performances came from Vincent Rigby, Riminy Casey,, Alice Thickett, Dominic Charles, William Hogg, Joshua Richardson, Laurence Pickford, Matthew Newbould, Alex Rigby, Sam Humphries, Jake Smart, Dominic Vingoe-Wright, Ella Whittaker, Adam Hall and David Hall.

At the Chesterfield Open meet there were first place swims for Matthew Newbould and Sam Humphries.
