Jake Meikle captured the Derbyshire men’s singles table tennis crown at Burton.

Jake, 15, from the Colin Deaton Table Tennis Academy, defeated the experienced Eric Gill in the final 7-11, 11-7, 13-11 and 11-7.

Jake - pictured left - rounded off an excellent day by also taking the U18 title.

In the men’s doubles Geoff Gill was in action again with partner Mike Bradbury to take the title defeating A. Portland and D. Greaves from Derby in the final.

In the mixed doubles final saw the pairing of Jake Meikle and Isobel Ashley and a surprise pairing of Abbie Milwain and John Denby.

John, who plays in Division Two of the Chesterfield League, proved to be an ideal partner for Abbie as they took the title 11-4, 11-6, 12-14 and 11-6.

The veterans singles was yet again contested with Geoff Gill in the final this time defeating Mike Bradbury from Matlock 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-7 to take the title.

In the U18 girls final Abbie Milwain, from Derby, played well to defeat Chesterfield youngster Isobel Ashley 7-11, 11-8, 12-10 and 11-6.

There was a surprise in the group play-off for the U15 boys title when Calum Goodwin had maximum wins which saw him defeat the favourite and club colleague Tim Denby to take the title.

In U12 boys final, Robin Pearson from the Speedwell Table Tennis faced Harry Beresford from Colin Deaton Table Tennis Academy.

Robin won 11-9, 11-6,7-11 and 11-6 to take the title.
