Chapel cruiserweight Jack Massey is set for his first title fight later this year at Buxton’s Devonshire Dome.

The 22-year-old, who has an unblemished record in the paid ranks of 8-0, will get a crack at the WBC Silver Youth title.

The fight will be pencilled in for October, but an exact date has not yet been revealed.

The event, which is thought to be the most prestigious belt ever to be contested in Derbyshire, will almost certainly be a sell-out with tickets expected to sell quickly.

Massey’s last outing came last month at Manchester Arena when he out-pointed Martyn Grainger.

However, he insisted that fight was his toughest assignment yet.

He said: “It was probably the hardest fight I have had yet and a good tester to see where I am at this point.”

Massey will now be stepping up his gym work with trainer Bobby Rimmer as he looks to make the next step in a career that has got off to an excellent start.

The confirmation of the title fight, in his native High Peak, is a result of hard work from Massey’s promoter Steve Wood.

Last summer, Massey told this newspaper that the opportunity to stage a show within the High Peak would be a brilliant occasion for him.

He said: “There’s a chance we could stage something at the Dome.

“My promoter has talked about it.

“It’s now a case of seeing what the seating situation is and various other things.

“But if it was to happen it would be good for me to stage a fight there. It’s just a case of waiting now.”

For Massey, the wait is nearly over.
