Derbyshire triathletes have been invited to take part in a county event in September.
The Buxton Triathlon, organisered by Xtra Mile Events, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 25.
The delayed refurbishments at Buxton Spa Pool forced the event to be held at New Mills last year. However, the organisers have now been assured by the pool’s operator, DC Leisure, that the pool will re-open in April and so will be ready to host their event in the autumn.
The event is a pool-based sprint distance triathlon.
It will start with a 400-metre swim in the heated, indoor pool; the triathletes will then head out on a 21km (13 mile) cycle ride into the glorious hills of the Peak District.
Finally, there is a 5.1km (three-mile) run around the spa town of Buxton. On crossing the finish line, competitors’ results will be available instantaneously via a computerised system; and they will receive a race goody bag. There are prizes for winners in age categories from 16 to 85+, and even novice category prizes for those just starting out in the sport. For more details and to enter visit www.XtraMileEvents.com.
