Four local kickboxers are celebrating after returning home from the recent World Championships with a bucketful of medals.
The four local fighters, who all train in Buxton and New Mills, travelled out to Taranto, Italy in October to compete against the cream of the crop in the kickboxing world.
Rick Allsop, his sister Sharon and Sharon’s daughter Danielle made it a family occasion as they all scooped gold medals.
Elsewhere, fellow club member Elliott Moore also impressed by becoming world champion in his category for the fifth time.
In total, the quartet brought back five golds, two silvers and a bronze - with 19 medals in total being won by England’s representative team which was 19 members strong.
Rick, who also acts as an instructor, brought back a gold which was his second world title in the space of three years.
Sharon replicated that feat with a gold and silver of her own.
Danielle, aged 14, also scooped a world title as she brought back a gold and a bronze medal.
Elliott, from Glossop, went one better and managed to clinch two golds and a silver to record his fifth world title scoop.
The four had ensured their places on the plane to Italy after impressing at the English National Championships, which were held in Urmston back in February this year.
Their achievements, and those of the English team in general, is made even more extraordinary considering they are responsible for funding themselves.
The fighters were sponsored for the tournament by local supermarket branches who made generous donations towards equipment and other costs.
Meanwhile, the club is open to new members. They meet at Bath Road Church Centre, Bath Road in Buxton on Thursdays between 7.30-9pm and Sundays between 2.30-4pm.
Everyone of all ages and ability are welcome. For further information contact Rick by calling 07880 990229.
