GK Ladies win all games to clinch title

GK's netball squad

GK's netball squad

The ladies of the GK netball team have been celebrating after winning the Chesterfield League title in superb style.

For their top team clinched the title with a remarkable record, winning all their games.

Astonishingly, more than half of the members of the team are aged 45 and four of them have been playing for the same team for more than 30 years. In all that time, the team has never been placed lower than third in the table.

The women were crowned champions at the Chesterfield Netball League’s presentation evening which was held at the Arkwright Centre.

The GK team, which is based at Tupton Hall School, was sponsored last season by Class 1 Weddings and captain and squad coach Vanessa Hobson said: “Our team has always played a skilful and fair game and I’m sure our success has a lot to do with the fact that we all get on so well. There is never a wrong word said between us; we are a very close-knit squad.”

Team member Jenny Walters said: “Vanessa is a true ambassador for the sport and all the squad want to publically thank her for her commitment, help and advice again this year.’’

Members of the winning team pictured, back row from left, are: Jenny Walters, Amanda Percy, Lucy McManus, Melissa Hobson. Front: Karen Holt, Vanessa Hobson, Denise Shaw and Kath Briggs. Missing from the photo is Brie Parkin.
