Staveley Miners Welfare and Worksop Town went toe to toe for 90 minutes on Wednesday night, before Tigers celebrated a hard fought 1-0 win.
The Derbyshire outfit were previously unbeaten in 12 games, but had suffered a league defeat to Worksop already this season.
Inkersall Road, where Staveley ousted Worksop from the FA Cup in August, provided the battle ground and the wind and rain provided a dramatic backdrop.
At times the wind swirled around the ground, making life difficult for everyone in attendance – not just the 22 men on the field.
But it was the players who put on an impressive show despite the weather, with an entertaining and relatively even first half and a brutal 45 minute war after the break.
The game was decided in the 31st minute when Worksop’s Connor Higginson got to the byline and hammered the ball across goal, where the unfortunate Brad Jones could only direct it into his own net.
