Three new directors appointed at Alfreton Town

The newcomers are no strangers to the club with press officer and website manager Kev Miles being joined by Shane Maltby, who has become a permanent fixture at the club particularly on match days where he performs numerous tasks including manning the turnstiles.

The third new member is local businessman Rob Staniforth, whose company have sponsored match days over recent seasons.

Explaining the decision to almost double the club’s directorship, Bradley said: “The board is being built up to increase the strength of input to the board from individuals who both care and wish to add to the development of the club.

“Shane Maltby has been chosen as a reward for his constant endeavours over many years and his devotion to the management of arena activities in a variety of roles and he joins the board as operations director.

“It is the same with club press officer and website manager Kev Miles. He is time-served over two decades with his endeavours including a constant ‘out of hours’ dedication to meet the growing media desires required. He joins the board as media director.

“Rob is a local business man who has been chosen because of his local origins, and especially skill levels, which will bring a fresh commercial focus in his role as commercial director.”

And the rebuilding of the infrastructure looks set to continue with more new arrivals expected.

“More directors could follow as the balance of US to UK director numbers are addressed along with a representative of the supporters to also serve on the board,” ended Bradley.

Staniforth (39) lives in South Normanton but was born and raised in Alfreton.

He is managing director of Mansfield-based Thomas Joseph HR Solutions and has also launched another company called Robert David Events Management.

He has been following the club since 1991 and counts striker Phil Stafford among his early favourite players.

In his spare time Staniforth is keen on most sports, plays golf and enjoys holidays.

“I will hopefully be able to make an impact to the club through my commercial management and business acumen,” he said.

“I am looking forward to having the opportunity to support a local community-based club and be part of the decision-making processes.”

Shane Maltby (49) was born and bred just over the border in Selston but has lived in Alfreton for the past 20 years and has followed the Reds for around 25 years, with his earliest recollection being a 5-0 home defeat by Runcorn in the FA Trophy.

A former committee member with the club under the chairmanship of Sean Egan, Maltby has a wealth of experience of match day operations at the Impact Arena.

Away from the game, Maltby watches even more football, watches and plays cricket and enjoys gardening.

By day, he is a fitter at MMD (Mining Machinery Development Ltd) on Cotes Park Industrial Estate where he has been for the last six years.

“I am honoured to be selected as a director and appreciate it,” he said. “I am hoping to have a positive input into the running of the club and work to try to take us to the next level.

“I am looking for the club to consolidate this season, rebuild and finish in the top five. I think we have got the right manager in charge to do it.”

Kev Miles (57) has a wealth of media experience and has literally ‘written millions of words’ about ATFC over the past 20 years.

A sports journalist for over 30 years and former sports editor of the Ripley & Heanor News and three other local newspapers, Miles has been writing about all things Red since 1995 and launched the club’s first ever website in 1999, overseeing annual hits growth from less than 10,000 in the first year to over 1.5m per year now.

An award-winning football programme editor, he is a former Alfreton Sunday Football League secretary of the year and was named Conference North press officer of the year in 2009/10.

He has also worked for the Press Association and had numerous articles published in national publications.

Miles is also a moderator of the club’s Forum, Facebook page and Twitter account.

“I am honoured to be asked to become a director of Alfreton Town Football Club,” he said.

“My first recollection of following Alfreton was in 1969 when I remember queueing up with my dad for tickets for the FA Cup first round tie at home to Barrow.

“Things have come a long, long way since then. Media has changed so much over the years, particularly social media which has exploded in recent years and I intend to keep Alfreton Town firmly in the public eye with all developments.”
