Tendayi Darikwa is looking to kick on after bagging his first goal of the season at the weekend.
The Chesterfield winger has predominantly been used as a substitute this season with five of his six appearances coming from the bench.
The 21-year-old made a vital contribution after he was introduced to the action with five minutes to go at Fratton Park on Saturday.
He scored the Spireites’ second goal in the 90th minute to make the points safe and fire Paul Cook’s side to the top of League Two.
Darikwa said: “It’s no secret we’ve got a strong squad. I think anyone on the bench can start on a Saturday so it’s good to have people who are able to come on and win the game.
“We’re playing well at the moment. Results are the same at the start of the season as they are at the last. The aim is to stay there and go up as champions.”
Darikwa’s form last season attracted interest in the January transfer window with Everton among others said to be eyeing up a move for the right-sided player.
Chesterfield faced a tough task to keep hold of their emerging star just months after he signed a contract extension at the Proact Stadium.
He went under the surgeon’s knife in January to cure a troublesome hernia and hopes the goal on Saturday, in front of a hostile 16,000-strong crowd, will help kick start his season.
“I feel fine,” he added. “It’s no secret I’ve not been playing the best but I’m working hard every day and always looking to improve and hopefully today will kick start my season.”
