Shiners stunned by two goals in as many minutes

Two goals in as many second half minutes for Borrowash Victoria took the wind out of South Normanton Athletic’s sails, as the Shiners went down 4-1 on the road.

South Normanton travelled south looking for a fourth consecutive win to help revive their EMCL Premier Division ambitions but were stunned by a flurry of goals.

The hosts, Borrowash, were sharp in to the tackle during the opening exchanges and their captain Ant Tansley was cautioned for a hefty tackle on ten minutes.

It set the tone for the match and, when Ant Fay was fouled on the left wing, Danny Roberts headed marginally over the cross bar from the resulting free-kick.

The Shiners would go even closer moments later when Steve Smith’s raking ball found Luke Crosby who hit a screamer from 18 yards that smacked the bar and bounced out. It was goalless at the break but didn’t stay that way for long. James Slack got his first on 46 minutes before Lee Fell doubled Borrowash’s lead two minutes later.

Daniel Riley kept the visitors in the game by reducing the arrears on 51 minutes with a trademark finish from eight yards out - but it was a short repreive.

Slack got his second via a deflection to re-establish the home side’s two-goal advantage and cruely take the game away from South Normanton.
