Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has strengthened his squad on January transfer deadline day by bringing in midfielder Steven Hewitt on loan from npower Championship club Burnley to the end of the season.

Manchester-born Steven, 19, began his career with the youth teams of Blackburn Rovers and Stockport County before signing a two-year scholarship spell with Burnley in 2010.

He signed his first professional contract in October 2011, on a two-and-a-half year deal. He made his debut for the club in April 2012 and has made two first team appearances with the Clarets so far.

He played the entire 90 minutes in Burnley’s 3-0 pre-season victory over Alfreton at the Impact Arena, scoring the final goal on 75 minutes.

Permission has been granted for him to play in the Derbyshire Senior Cup but not until after the Mickleover Royals game because of eligibilty.

There is a 24 hour recall notice after 28 days.

Steven will wear squad number 18 during his stay at the Impact Arena and he is added to the squad for Saturday’s Blue Square Bet Premier Division game at Grimsby Town.
