Punters positive following Lester appointment at Chesterfield

Jack Lester may have made a losing start to life as Chesterfield manager with a 2-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham, but his appointment has still sparked plenty of bets on the rookie manager turning around the Spireites' fortunes and rescuing them from their early-season relegation battle.

Since the announcement the club legend would take the reins, Chesterfield are the third most popular pick for promotion from League Two behind form sides Wycombe and Saturday’s conquerors Cheltenham.

That has happened despite the Spireites now being wild outsiders with bookmakers at a massive 150/1, having been just 7/2 at the start of the season.

Betters have also snapped up the 20/1 on offer for a top-half finish with Chesterfield responsible for a little over 29% of bets since 29th September in that market.

Lester will be hoping to build on their midweek win over League one Rotherham in the Checkatrade Trophy when they travel to Lincoln as 5/1 outsiders and, despite punters having faith in Lester over the course of the season, Saturday looks like being another tough 90 minutes with 69% of bets on the match result being in favour of the home side.
