OPINION: McClaren sacking - Who will take over at Derby County?

Rowett played for the Rams, making 105 appearances from 1995–1998. Rowett knows the club and knows the values of the fans, knowing the history and the stature of Derby County.

When Rowett was surprisingly sacked at Birmingham in December, he left the club close to the play-offs.

Many Derby fans have said that Rowett would be their choice to take the club forward.

Alan Pardew is second on the list at Sky Bet at 7/1. Pardew was sacked by Crystal Palace in December after a poor start to the 2016/17 season. Pardew is known for his tactical knowhow and was previously tipped to be England manager.

Prior to this season, Pardew got Palace to the FA Cup final, but lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

He is a manager who likes to make his own decision and do things his own way. Mel Morris is an owner who likes to be involved with the squad, so would that clash?

Former England boss Roy Hodgson is 14/1 in the Sky Bet list. Hodgson finished his contract with England after they knocked out of the 2016 European Championships by a defeat to Iceland.

Hodgson has managed a number of clubs at domestic level, such as Inter Milan, Blackburn, Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom.

He has a very good CV but would it be too much for him to drop down to the Championship?

Hodgson is a very likeable character, but, in my opinion, tactically inept.

Mark Warburton and Claudio Ranieri are 18/1 and 20/1 respectively in the Sky Bet list with Lincoln’s Danny Cowley, Ryan Giggs and Steven Gerrard all at 33/1.
