New Sunday League gathers momentum

Sunday league football could soon be returning to Buxton and the High Peak, with interested teams being invited to come forward.

The Hyde and District Sunday Football League is looking to fill the gap left by the demise of the Buxton Taverners League, which folded in March 2012 after 37 years, by launching a dedicated High Peak-based division.

The long-standing Hyde and District League currently operates three divisions containing a total of 30 teams from across Glossop, Tameside and further afield.

League Chairman and Secretary David Brightmore said: “If we could get enough teams interested for a standalone High Peak division, we would be happy to arrange to come over and hold a welcome meeting to all new clubs in the Buxton area.

“As well as a stand-alone division minimising commuting, there would be the opportunity to play in cup competitions.”

Derbyshire County FA, working in partnership with Hyde & District Football League and Cheshire County FA, are now actively recruiting unattached or new teams for the next campaign (2014/15).

If teams are located in Buxton and the surrounding towns and villages and are looking for Adult Sunday Football next season, they are invited to contact Derbyshire County FA Adult Football Development Officer Lauren Mellor.

She can be contacted by calling 01332 361 422 or emailing lauren.mellor@derbyshirefa.com.

Alternatively if you require any further information regarding the league and the structure for next season please call David on 07710 583483 or email david.brightmore@hydeleague.com.

League application forms should be sent to David Brightmore to the details shown on the application form.

• Any clubs looking to create an adult team for the 2014/15 season can apply to the Football Foundation for the Grow the Game funding.

The deadline for applications is Monday February 17.
