Lynam hat-trick offers timely relief for Millers

With a dismal month of November behind them the Millers needed to get back on track and this victory eased them into second place behind leaders FC Bolsover.

It was Lynam who opened the scoring on the half-hour with a powerful header past a clutch of players. Then the visitors responded ten minutes later with a goal from the penalty spot that captain, Rob Gorman slotted past Charlie Clayton.

Clay Cross regained their lead on the stroke of half-time when Aiden Ordidge curled his shot past the sprawling keeper, Matt Hurschell-Smith.

The Millers controlled most of the play in the second-half but Alex Marsh dealt them a cruel blow with an opportunist equalizer on seventy-minutes.

The response from Clay Cross was two quick goals from Lynam on 73 and 75 minutes. The game was then effectively sealed with a minute remaining when Ryan Ordidge’s penalty kick was cheekily chipped over Hurschell-Smith.

This Saturday (December 10) the Millers are at home to Harworth Colliery in a clash that sees second play third. Kick-off 3pm.
