WATCH: AFC Mansfield seal passage in NCEL League Cup after 1-0 win over Staveley

The Bulls had a penalty shout turned down on seven minutes when Joe Naylor was caught on the shins in the box.

Sam Finlaw saw his long range effort go high and wide on 25 minutes and, at the other end, Danny Naylor fired his 20 yard effort over the bar after good work down the right flank from Brewin.

Staveley were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes after Jason White had brought down Kurtis Morley.

But Jahmal Smith fired the spot kick wide of the keeper’s right hand post and the scores remained level.

The Bulls went in front four minutes into the restart when Brewin played the ball forward to Mitchell, who rode a strong challenge from a defender before racing clear.

Hernandez came out to close the angle, but Mitchell fired a low drive into the back of the net.

Grant Allott went close five minutes later after picking up the loose ball from a Ghaichem corner. He then turned in the box, but Hernandez did well to turn his effort over the bar.

Staveley had a good period of play around the 75 minute mark when they forced three corners in a row with Mark Dudley having to head one inswinging effort off the line.

Joe Naylor fired over the bar on 80 minutes after linking up well with Ghaichem and Ward on the right flank.

Mitchell and Chris Wood carved out a chance on 85 minutes, with Hernandez doing well to save at the feet of Wood.

Staveley then hit the bar in the dying minutes after Ellis Wall latched on to a long ball which caught out AFC Mansfield.
