Alfreton Town climbed to 14th position in the Blue Square Bet Premier with a comfortable 3-0 win over relegation-threatened Ebbsfleet United at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night.

Three changes from the Tamworth draw saw Jordan Rose make his debut on loan from AFC Telford United as cover for injured defender Darran Kempson, while Steven Hewitt replaced Nathan Arnold and Paul Clayton started in preference to Scott Boden.

Dan Bradley led the way with a 14th minute penalty after Ebbsfleet skipper Paul Lorraine had impeded Clayton from a Bradley cross, then three minutes later Clayton fired wide from eight yards from a Louie Soares delivery.

Liam Enver-Marum tested home keeper Jordan Pickford from the edge of the area with a low drive on 20 minutes, then four minutes later Matt Godden struck the foot of the post for the Kent side from Nathan Elder’s header through.

Alfreton led 2-0 after 28 minutes when Clayton’s by-line cross was guided past his own keeper Preston Edwards by Ebbsfleet defender Paul Walsh with Ben Tomlinson in close attention, then Edwards did will to turn behind a deflected shot from Soares five minutes later.

Law took the ensuing corner and Clayton saw his header saved by the keeper, then four minutes before the break Law had to block Godden’s back post effort from a deep Joe Howe cross.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was stifled by constantly overhit

through-balls before Soares’ accurate pass allowed Tomlinson to fire straight at Edwards from a sharp angle.

It was 3-0 to the Reds on 71 minutes when Rose celebrated his first game by slotting home from eight yards after Law’s corner had bobbled around the box.

Hewitt turned neatly in receipt of Bradley’s through-ball but his curling shot was saved by Edwards, then Hewitt played Clayton to the by-line before the keeper saved with his legs.

Arnold missed two decent chances before Clayton’s 88th minute shot from Boden’s cross was blocked by Howe, then right at the end Godden squandered a chance for a consolation goal by slicing wide an Ashley Carew free-kick.

ALFRETON: Pickford; Law, Quinn, Rose, Franklin, Soares [Arnold 71], Bradley [Meadows 76], Brown, Arnold, Clayton, Tomlinson [Boden 76].

Subs not used: Franks, Worsfold. Attendance: 459.
