November misery goes on for Clay Cross

After securing the '˜Team of the Month' award for October in the Central Midlands League the month of November has in contrast been a disappointing one for Clay Cross Town.

Last Saturday saw the Millers succumb to another league defeat, going down 3-1 at the hands of Retford.

Once again it was an early goal that stunned Clay Cross when Retford captain, Oliver Mitchell scored on six minutes.

However, Ant Lynam responded 10 minutes later for the Millers with an excellently executed shot that curled over keeper Ryan Elkington.

Then two goals in the space of two minutes from impressive Retford striker, Jermaine Gordon eased the visitors into a half-time lead.

The Millers managed to contain any further threats from Gordon and then went fully on the offensive themselves.

They produced a spirited fightback, but the Retford defence held strong until the final whistle and continued their three-match winning sequence.

This Saturday the Millers host Phoenix (3pm) at Mill Lane followed by the mouth-watering Derbyshire Senior Cup tie against Buxton on Tuesday (7.45pm).
