Newark began the day as high as fifth in the table, but were swept aside by a Clay Cross side basking in an eight-match unbeaten run. Lee Clay headed the opening goal from close range in the eighth minute, an Ant Lynam free-kick was the source of the second on 15 minutes and then George Slack made it 3-0.

The visitors emerged for the second half looking a much stronger outfit and almost scored when a fierce shot from striker Damian Lloyd ricocheted off the upright. But that gave the Millers a needy awakening and from the resulting clearance, Nathan Jessop broke away to fire past ‘keeper Nathan Burrows.

With ten minutes remaining, Lynam struck again with a solo effort before the game was brought to an entertaining close by a Callum Lytham effort that he crashed into the roof of the net.

This Saturday, Clay Cross are away to fourth-placed Tideswell United, while Bolsover sit out another break.
