Staveley Miners Welfare boss James Colliver has made steps to rejuvenate the club’s backroom and playing staff this summer.

Colliver has appointed ex-Hull City, Sheffield United and Alfreton Town man Ryan France as his assistant and Derek Geary, who played for both of Sheffield’s premier clubs, in a coaching role.

Colliver has been busy on the playing side too, recruitnig a number of experienced players including Steve Hernandez, Austin McIntosh (ex-Mansfield Town), Joe Flint (ex- Mansfield Town and Belper Town), Jordan Eagers, Jack Poulton, Nathan Forbes and Craig Fisher.

He has also retained 13 players from the 2013/14 squad, including joint-top scorer Matt Thorpe, ex-Scarborough player Oli Ryan, Michael Trench, Matt Hassett and Pat Lindley plus promising youngsters Ryan Dickinson, Sam Finlaw, Luke Walker and Ryan Watters.

One man who will be missing is last season’s star man, Josh Scully, who is understood to be flying to the USA to begin a college course in September.

Staveley drew 1-1 with Shirebrook in their first pre-season outing last week, Jordan Eagers with the goal on his Inkersall Road comeback after 18 months at Sheffield FC and Worksop Parramore.

They played against a Chesterfield X1 on Monday night and won 4-3, largely thanks to a Ryan Damms hat-trick.

Nathan Forbes broke the deadlock for the hosts before Damms took centre stage for Staveley against a predominantly youthful Spireites X1.

Ritchie Humphreys, at 36, was the obvious exception and he captained Chesterfield who found the net through Charlie Raglan, Lewis Sugden and Mason Coy.

Their first league game is at home to Bridlington Town on Saturday, August 9 (3pm).
