He was one of several players who left Tigers to ply their trade at a higher level when the club’s owner pulled his funding and the world’s fourth oldest club took a voluntary two-division relegation.

But Muldoon was the only one to move to a Football League club, and probably would have departed even if life at Worksop had carried on in the manner to which fans became accustomed.

For manager Shaw, Muldoon is somewhat of a reminder of a difficult time in both his career and the club’s history.

“Seeing these old players, there’s a sense of disappointment for what could have been,” he said.

“What could we have done as a club and a team?

“Where could that team have gone and thrown a competitive dart at?

“But he looks good, it’s lovely to see him.

“It’s great he was looking forward to coming back and playing against his old team, the team that helped catapult him to professional levels.”

Muldoon hit the net 21 times in the Northern Premier League for Tigers during the 2013/14 season, helping them to reach the play-offs where they lost to AFC Fylde, now a National League North side.

It was a breakout season for the forward and led to a move to League One Rochdale.

He made six appearances for the Dale in his first professional campaign and finished the season on loan at Halifax.

After his release by Rochdale Muldoon joined Lincoln City, scoring nine goals in 47 appearances last season.
