Midlands Regional Alliance clubs made a welcome return to action as the weekend saw the opening round of league fixtures take place.
The curtain-raiser came on Friday when Melbourne Dynamo Reserves entertained their Little Eaton counterparts in Division Two. The free-scoring Jack Goodband picked up where he left off, grabbing a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory for Dynamo who must rank amongst the favourites for the Division Two title.
However, it is Woolley Moor United Reserves who sit top of the division after a 7-1 win over Chellaston Reserves, followed by newcomers Chesterfield Town and Sherwin who both recorded 6-0 victories on their Midlands Regional Alliance debuts.
Town saw off Bargate Rovers Reserves at home, while goals from Paul Tyers (2), Yaya Cisse, Haroun Kadok, Troy Samuel, and sub Azwan Shah ensured Sherwin returned from their trip to fellow new boys Derby Deaf with all three points.
Willington Sports enjoyed a winning start to the campaign with a 4-0 win over Sandiacre Town Reserves, while first-half goals from Alex Lacey and Adam Lacey saw Matlock Town CFA do likewise with a 2-0 win against Ambergate.
Rowsley ’86 confirmed their title aspirations with a comprehensive opening day victory at Chellaston. Tim Baker (3), Andrew Roome (2), Matthew Hamilton, and Patrick Speedie found the net in a 7-1 win.
Melbourne Dynamo, who narrowly missed out on the Premier Division title last term, have again started strongly by hitting three without reply at newly-promoted Tibshelf. David Brough (2) and Michael Tristram were on the score-sheet for Dynamo.
An identical score-line for Sandiacre Town at Wirksworth Ivanhoe leaves them sitting third, while new Cromford manager Dave Williams got off to a good start as his side beat Pastures 4-2. The match between Woolley Moor United and Newhall United ended all square at two goals apiece. Veteran marksman Rockie White netted two excellent strikes for the hosts, while James Ward hit a brace for Newhall, the second coming from the penalty spot.
Matlock United started life in Division One with a 7-2 victory over Newhall United Reserves. Callum Gill (2), Andrew Boyack, Ben Chamberlain, Chris Johnson, Jack Walden, Graham Whysal got the goals for Matlock.
Goals from Mark Green, Adam Martin, Liam McCormack, James Oldham, and Jason Jude helped Aston United to a 5-0 win at home to Rowsley ’86 Reserves. FC Stockbrook Rangers made a good start to their campaign with a 5-2 win over Wirksworth Town Reserves at Moor Lane.
It was a clash of two newcomers in the remaining Division One match, as Shirebrook Rangers entertained AFC Rocester. It was the hosts who came out triumphant, with Scott Ashmore (2) and Curt Hayden on target in a 3-2 win.
