When Wilson arrived at the club Paul Mitchell was the club’s director of player recruitment/development.

But since Mitchell’s departure, the gaffer himself, assistant Chris Morgan and the other coaches have been travelling to games to spot talent and assess rival teams.

Wilson said: “All the staff do it, we don’t have a network like a lot of clubs, we get out to as many games as we can.

“We overload one or two of our scouts, they’ve done more miles than I don’t know what, covering games for us.

“And so do we, we’re out most nights at fixtures open to us. It’s not easy, but that’s the way it is at clubs nowadays, particularly clubs like ourselves.”

Mitchell ended up at Sheffield United after a short break from the game.

The former Worksop Town and Gainsborough Trinity boss left the Proact in April and was appointed by the Blades as head of recruitment/development in July.
