Unbeaten run extended to nine games

Chesterfield v Torquay

Chesterfield 1, Torquay United 1

Chesterfield were held to a draw by Torquay, a result which extends their unbeaten run to nine games.

It was 0-0 after a lively first half but the Spireites imposed their authority early on after the break.

Tendayi Darikwa gave the home team the lead with his first professional goal in the 49th minute.

Craig Westcarr took possession after a Jack Lester free kick had been blocked and he rolled the ball into the path of Darikwa who found the net from close range.

But the lead did not last long as Torquay levelled in the 51st minute.

A long punt forward looked harmless but a slip by Neal Trotman left Rene Howe one on one with Blues keeper Richard O’Donnell and the Torquay man’s right foot effort from inside the area bulged the net.

Chesterfield were on top for large chunks of the second half but were unable to find a winning goal.
