Town should be higher up the table says Wilson ahead of Gills clash tonight

The Chesterfield manager says his men could and perhaps should have won on Saturday at Bury, had their decision making in attack been better – and those points aren’t the only ones he feels slipped through their fingers.

“We’ve had a few defeats up and down the country this season and arguably we could have come away winners in those games,” he said.

“It’s not alarming that we’re not performing and we’re losing, we are performing and given one or two better decisions we will come away scoring goals and winning games.

“We should definitely be better off. We should be in the play-off positions if not pushing the top end, we’ve let too many games drift away from us.”

Whilst Wilson is happy with Town’s form at the Proact so far – three wins from four – he’s expecting a very tough outing tonight, despite the home comforts.

“The performances have been very good at home, we’ve created lots of chances in the games and converted the majority,” he said.

“(But) sometimes people don’t really take into consideration what you’re playing against.

“Again we’re up against a very physical team, a very strong team, a very good team who had a fantastic season last season and found themselves unlucky not to push further for promotion.

“They’re getting their act together after a bit of a slow start, but they’re stringing a few results together now and we know it’s going to be a hard game.

“They’re very mobile, quite direct at times, another similar game in that balls will rain into your box. We have to be strong and determined to defend those.”

Ched Evans, Dion Donohue and Paul McGinn are all likely to be out tonight.

Evans has a heel injury while Donohue tweaked his knee last week and McGinn limped out of Saturday’s defeat at Bury with a hamstring problem.

The trio join long term injury victims Tommy Lee, Liam O’Neil and Angel Martinez in the treatment room.
