Green-fingered Antony Haywood has been named as the groundsman of the year.
The Chesterfield FC head groundsman scooped the League Two accolade and pipped section winners from Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Carlisle United to become the overall winner in an Oscar-like ceremony at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium.
Antony’s preparation of tremendous playing surfaces at the B2net earned him the Alex R Millar IOG Professional Football Groundsman of the Year Award at the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) Industry Awards.
The award was judged by an independent panel on criteria that included Antony’s effective use of resources, budgetary control, presentation and housekeeping standards, as well as environmental considerations at the Whittington Moor ground.
The award was presented by Jeremy Hindle of DLF/Johnsons Seed, which sponsored the category jointly with British Sugar (Topsoil), to Antony (pictured right) in front of an audience of 350.
