Chesterfield FC have completed the signing of central midfielder Sam Togwell on a two-year deal.
The 27-year-old moves to the B2net Stadium as a free agent following his release from League One side Scunthorpe United.
Togwell started his career at Crystal Palace where he made four appearances which included coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over then European Champions Liverpool in 2005.
The midfielder joined Barnsley in 2006 and enjoyed a pivotal role with the Yorkshire club during his debut season playing 46 times.
He helped Barnsley to the F.A Cup semi-final before departing Oakwell after two years.
Sam moved to Glanford Park in 2008 and helped Scunthorpe to promotion to the Championship in his first season.
He went on to make 176 appearances in a four-year spell before securing a move to Chesterfield.
Togwell himself said that he is delighted to be joining the Spireites.
He said: “There’s a lot of ambition with the club and it certainly matches my ambition.”
Togwell is Chesterfield’s fith summer signing.
Other newcomers are keeper Richard O’Donnell, from Sheffield Wednesday, striker Marc Richards, from Port Vale, central defender Sam Hird, from Doncaster, and defender Terrell Forbes from Leyton Orient.
