Third draw in a row for Blues

Chesterfield 2, Aldershot Town 2

Deane Smalley scored twice as League Two leaders Chesterfield drew their third game in a row.

The clash was the Spireites tenth game unbeaten and Smalley gave them a seventh minute lead when he headed in a Mark Allott throw-in from close range.

Tim Sills made it 1-1 in the 62nd minute and gave Aldershot the lead with nine minutes remaining after Blues keeper Tommy Lee had saved an Alex Rodman penalty.

Sills was first to the loose ball and prodded it over the line but Smalley saved Chesterfield’s bacon with his second goal in the 86th minute.

Meanwhile, the match saw the comeback of Sian Massey for her first game since her Premier League appearance as an assistant referee at Wolves sparked a sexism controversy that cost Sky Sports’ Andy Gray and Richard Keys their jobs.
