Tendayi Darikwa was happy to take the positives out of Chesterfield’s stalemate with Portsmouth.

The goalless draw was the Spireites first clean sheet in eight attempts and their 15th of the season.

It means the current League Two leaders are also joint top of the clean sheet charts alongside Scunthorpe United.

Darikwa has slotted in on the right side of defence in recent weeks in the absence of Drew Talbot through injury.

And the 22-year-old said it was a small plus from an otherwise disappointing result against a lowly Pompey.

He said: “We’re disappointed not to come away with three points but we need to move on to the next game now, thankfully we didn’t lose the game.

“We had a lot of the ball and made life difficult for us. They put a lot of men behind the ball and hit us on the break. It just wasn’t our night.

“We take a positive when we get a clean sheet. It’s been a while since we last had a clean sheet so that’s a positive. I think the save he made kept us in the game and ensured we got the points.

“We had a lot of the ball, tried to create but it just wasn’t our night. We couldn’t get through them, couldn’t get round them and we’ll have nights like this.”

Chesterfield’s task doesn’t get any easier as they travel to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, March 8.

The Spireites haven’t enjoyed recent times to the Crown Ground, losing four of their last five visits.

“It’s aways a tricky place Accrington, they always make it hard for you,” added Darikwa.

“We need to be professional, do our jobs and hopefully get the three points.”
