Chesterfield 3, Derby County 3
(Derby win penalty shoot-out 4-1)
Chesterfield were knocked out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup by Derby County following a penalty shoot-out at the B2net Stadium.
The Spireites looked to be cruising into the competition’s semi-finals when goals in either half from Dean Smalley and Jordan Bowery gave the home side a 2-0 lead.
But the Rams responded with two goals in two minutes - from Aaron Cole (84) Jeff Hendrick (85) - to set up extra time.
Chesterfield’s challenge appeared to be slipping away when defender Matt Needham tripped Tomasz Cywka who dusted himself down to fire home the resultant penalty and make it 3-2 to Derby.
However, 60 seconds later, Jordan Burrow levelled matters at 3-3 with a close range tap in after Chesterfield attacked from the restart.
In the shoot-out, Cywka and Hendrick got Derby off to a flying start while Jamie Lowry and Scott Griffiths saw their efforts saved by Saul Deeney.
Ben Pringle found the net and although Tendayi Darikwa scored, Jake Buxton’s thunderbolt kept Derby on the silverwear trail.
