Spireites slip closer to brink

Chesterfield 1, Scunthorpe United 4

Chesterfield’s place in League One looks increasingly in peril following Scunthorpe’s triumph at the B2net on Saturday.

The defeat left bottom club Chesterfield ten points adrift of the safety zone with six games left to play.

Chesterfield took the lead through Craig Westcarr, who netted the goal that secured the JP Trophy for the Spireites the previous weekend.

It arrived in the 21st minute when he received a pass from Neal Trotman, held off a challenge from Dave Mirfin to slot the ball home past Sam Slocombe.

Seven minutes later Jordan Robertson levelled for the Iron and Josh Walker gave them a 2-1 lead with a 65th-minute tap-in.

A spectacular 25-yard shot by Robertson made it 3-1 with 15 minutes to go before Andy Barcham completed the scoring in the 81st minute.
